Areas of Practice

Civil LItigation

Much of my trial experience relates to trying civil litigation lawsuits.  I have handled hundreds of automobile and truck accident cases, slip and fall, premises liability cases, and other negligence cases.  Most cases settle and I know how to settle cases.  When a case does not settle I am willing and prepared to try a case when that is in the best interest of the client.

I have handled Kansas Consumer Protection Act cases and find those cases to be challenging and interesting.

Local government law

I worked for a local governmental entity for 12 years.  That experience qualifies me  to handles matters relating to local government issues including property valuation (dealing with the County Appraiser), Board of Tax Appeals, zoning, local government environmental issues, Open Meetings and Records, voting issues, and other local government issues.

Family Law

I am experienced in most aspects of family law to include divorce, child custody, child support, and parenting time.  I am very interested in helping clients with protection from abuse or protection from stalking issues.  I can assist with adoptions, name changes, grandparent rights, and other family law issues.  Family law issues can be very emotional and I strive to provide the client compassionate but objective and realistic advice.

I can assist in child of need in care matters.

General practice of law

In a community the size of Great Bend, a lawyer ends up working with clients regarding many issues.  I can assist a client with contracts, wills, living wills, medical powers of attorney, durable powers of attorney, deeds, and similar matters.  I have considerable experience with employment and unemployment issues.

Criminal law

I have an active felony and misdemeanor practice. I have handled many severity level one and two felonies. I provide clients objective and realistic advice.
